Community Stories

Over the decades, Well Number 5 has become woven into the fabric of countless lives. From daily visitors to occasional pilgrims, from nearby residents to those who travel hours for the water—each person brings their own story to this remarkable place. Here are some of the voices that make up our well community.

"It's Like a Fountain of Youth"

"I drive 40 minutes from West Seattle with my golden retriever Cosmo. I've been reading about the raw water movement and I truly believe this water has given me more energy. Cosmo only drinks this water now—he won't touch anything else! This water coming right out of the earth has never touched anything artificial, and I'm putting it right into glass jugs. The water is still living, it's moving, it's active."

"A Silver Cup Memory"

"For me, it's sentimental. It reminds me of when I was a little girl living in Idaho. My grandparents had a silver mine and we'd go down and drink from the stream in a little silver cup. Every time I taste this water, I'm transported back to those precious childhood moments."

"The Plants Know Best"

"I use well water for drinking, cooking, cleaning, and all my plants. The plants were dying until I switched to this water—now they're thriving! I bought three 10-gallon orange Home Depot thermal water coolers specifically for this well. When they're full, they weigh 80 pounds each, so lifting them works out my core. And when I have to wait in line, I can sit down on them!"

"My Wife's Secret Ingredient"

"I come here for beer brewing, camaraderie, and keeping my wife happy. You meet all kinds of cool people—I've made real friendships here. Met a guy who was into brewing, and I make mead. You can't do that with chemicals in the water. My wife is a top-notch cook and we always use this water. If she catches me putting tap water in food, I'm in big trouble. I might get away with watering the dog with tap water, but that's about it!"

"Hair and Health Benefits"

"I got hooked on this water when I lived in Shoreline and now make the drive from La Conner. It just has such a good flavor, and I even like shampooing my hair with it. There's something special about water that's been filtered naturally through the earth for hundreds of years."

"Skin Deep Improvement"

"I've been coming here since 2003 after someone told me it was one of the cleanest water sources. When I started drinking it, my skin started getting better, and I noticed my hair getting nicer—I saw real improvements in my health. I've even seen monks come to this well to use the water as holy water. There's not just health benefits, but spiritual value here too."

"An 11-Year Frog"

"The water is high quality, and it's free. I had a tiny frog as a pet once—they usually only live about four or five years. I kept that frog in this water, and he lived for 11 years! Sometimes the wait can be as long as 45 or 60 minutes, but it's more often about 20 or 25. There's always people out here, day and night."

"The Most Refreshing Thing"

"I'm not a water snob, but this water is seriously the most refreshing thing I've ever tasted. I don't go much anymore because of the lines, but if I'm driving by in the middle of the night, I'll fill up a couple bottles. There's something magical about pure, untreated water that comes straight from the earth."

Appreciates the exceptional taste and quality

"Weekly Ritual"

"I'm addicted to it. I fill up ten gallons every week religiously. It takes an hour including my ten-minute commute each way. It's tedious, but I've been doing it for years, so there must be something to it. But be careful—once you start drinking this water regularly, other water doesn't taste good anymore!"

"Growing Amazing Plants"

"I used to use this water to grow plants indoors, and the results were incredible. I was able to produce roots for my clones within 3 to 4 days using this water. When I tried using sink water, it would take at least 7 to 10 days. There's something in this natural water that plants just respond to beautifully."

"Family Tradition"

"Never drank tap growing up—my parents always used to go to the well and fill up water. Now I really don't like the taste of tap water unless it goes through a filter. I've done blind tests and can pretty easily tell when it's tap water. This place is part of our family's story now, and we're passing that tradition on to our kids."
